Witches Bane - A SOL Short Story, Part I
Rain pelted down against the stones and mud and overgrown vegetation. Vines bore their way through boulders like it was glass, and it made even easier work of the now wrecked log cabin. The trees were dense here on a normal day, but now, you couldn’t see further than ten feet before the light was swallowed whole, as if the very shadows themselves were feasting. It was no wonder that an anomaly was present. What else could explain this, a wicked witch?
Turns out, I wasn’t far off.
I held my matrix device firm, keeping the containment circle active. Sparks flew from the device, emerald and gold energy spewing out in beautiful, dangerous arcs that could give solar flares a run for their money. Whatever the entity was, it wasn’t making itself easy to contain, and clearly held a lot of para-energy. But I could tell that much from a glance. It resembled a corpse that had been used as a terrarium for plant life, though notably far more green than the native crimson plants of Ares…
