Then, the skin crinkled upward in what I could only assume to be an attempt at grinning. “You… They fear you, don’t they?” It’s horrid voice was like the rustling of leaves heard beneath the wet sound of an ancient bog. “They fear you... just as they fear us”
“That’s enough”
“You are not like them… you are other—you are witch! And yet you pretend… you betray your siblings for their favor—”
“I said, that’s enough!” The containment circle crackled with fiery, golden hues speckled with emerald green, arcing around me and flaring to the skies above, singing the treetops. I looked to the ground and found my foot had crossed the barrier. Fool…
In an instant, it’s fingers of bone and bark wrapped around my throat, it’s ‘face’ of marsh and decay, framed by thin, damaged hair woven into branch and vine mere inches from mine.
“one day… you will realize your place amongst them… and you will learn of your true home. Until then, Witches Bane…”
Then, it was gone. I was left standing there, an intruder in the silent forest that had lost it’s Queen.
